13 Arcane Hymns

The Unraveling is a "progressive" metal band from Calgary, Alberta (That is in Canada, kids.) I'm not really sure what the word progressive means in this case. I always considered bands like Rush "progressive". This is not Rush. The Unraveling sent me a pre-release copy of their album 13 Arcane Hymns and it blew me away!
The recordings are good - really good. The music is complicated enough to keep my attention yet not so complicated that I can't follow it. The dude can play guitar! The bass is solid in an evil Geezer Butler sort of way and the drummer just wails. I want to see those bass rolls live - he is quick and clean! Well done guys!
Then there is the singer - he rocks too! I like the guy's voice and it fits well with this type of music. I bet these guys put on one hell of a show.
The best way to describe their music is intense - evil if you will. I was reminded of old Priest or even Ozzy after he parted ways with Sabbath, not the music specifically but the same "Is God going to strike me down the next time I go near a Church since I've been listening to this?" feel.
I could go through and comment on each track, but that would be really redundant. EVERY song on this album is killer. The Unraveling were cool enough to let me post some of their songs on my MP3 section.
These guys aren't signed yet, but I predict that they will be soon. Check them out.
Grouch rating 4 scowls out of 5 - this is a favorite.
